Description
Sicilian born Rocky moved to Philadelphia in 1932 when he was a young boy. Growing up on the tough streets of south Philadelphia Rocky quickly gained a reputation as good fella and worked his way up the family ranks. Growing up on Passyunk Avenue, blocks from where the cheese steak originated, Rocky ‘the mouth’ Salvatore was known for his tremendous appetite for cheese steak sandwiches.
By the 1950s Rocky was a legend in Philly and could be found in the city hot spots with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart. After years of service ‘The Mouth” was promoted and sent to Denver to start his own crew in the Mile High City. He fell in love with the mountains but was homesick for the taste of the old school Philadelphia cheese steak. With the Don’s blessing Rocky left his life of crime behind and opened the Cheesesteak Connection in Lower Downtown Denver to bring the taste of South Philly to Colorado.
